A History of Serious Inquiry into Unserious Questions

Our History

The University of Sagacity was founded in 1987 by Dr. Evelyn Marchetti, a philosopher who had grown frustrated with what she called "the tyranny of significance." After being denied tenure at Columbia for her dissertation on "The Epistemology of Forgetting Why You Walked Into a Room," she used a modest inheritance to establish an institution dedicated to questions that mainstream academia considered beneath serious inquiry.

The early years were difficult. Operating from a converted warehouse in an undisclosed location, the university had three faculty members and no students. Dr. Marchetti's vision was simple: to apply rigorous scholarly methods to the phenomena of everyday life that everyone experiences but no one studies.

By 1998, when Dr. Constance Weatherby joined after her infamous departure from Oxford, the university had begun to attract serious scholars from serious institutions who had grown tired of serious constraints. Today, we are proud to be the world's leading research institution for questions that fall through the cracks.

Our Philosophy

We believe that the distinction between "important" and "trivial" questions is often arbitrary, driven more by academic fashion than genuine intellectual value. The person who understands why we say "I'm good" instead of "I'm well" may understand something fundamental about human social performance. The scholar who maps waiting room seating patterns may reveal deep truths about personal space and social anxiety.

Our methodology is conventional; our subject matter is not. Every paper we publish meets the same standards of evidence, analysis, and peer review that govern any respectable journal. We simply refuse to accept that some questions aren't worth asking.

Accreditation

The University of Sagacity is accredited by the International Council for the Study of Overlooked Phenomena (ICSOP), which we founded in 1992 when no existing accreditation body would recognize our work. We are also members of the Consortium of Unconventional Research Institutions (CURI) and maintain academic partnerships with several institutions that prefer not to be named publicly.

Campus & Location

For reasons related to ongoing research into "the psychology of geographic mystique," we do not publicly disclose our physical location. Prospective students and visiting scholars receive location details upon acceptance. We can confirm that the campus exists, that it has adequate parking, and that the waiting room in our main administrative building has been carefully designed to facilitate ongoing research.
